Fabric Options for Custom Silk Kimonos

A kimono demands drape above all else. The fabric needs to fall smoothly over the body, hold its shape when belted, and feel weightless on bare skin. We stock specific weaves and weights engineered for this.

100% Silk

Silk Charmeuse (Satin)

Silk Charmeuse Fabric Swatch
  • 16 Momme: Lightweight. Highly breathable. Best for warm climates or cost-conscious bulk orders.
  • 19 Momme: Mid-weight. Fluid drape without being transparent. Our most popular choice for both personal kimonos and branded collections.
  • 22 Momme: Heavy. Opaque. Won't cling or reveal contours — even with backlighting. The top-tier pick for bridal kimonos, hotel suites, or premium retail.
100% Silk

Silk Twill

Silk Twill Fabric Swatch
  • 16 Momme: Durable. Lightweight enough for warmer climates. Strong enough for daily wear.
  • 18 Momme: Denser. Heavier hand feel. Ideal for kimonos that see heavy rotation — think hotel or spa inventory.
90% Silk + 10% Spandex

Silk Stretch Satin

Stretch Silk Satin Fabric Swatch

The added 10% spandex makes this fabric highly durable, ensuring it resists breaking under tension while maintaining a fluid drape.

  • 19 Momme: Flexible. Recovers its shape after washing. Great for hospitality, where one size often must fit many guests.
  • 22 Momme: Same stretch in a heavier weight. More body coverage. More warmth.
90% Silk + 10% Spandex

Silk Stretch Twill

Silk Stretch Twill Fabric Swatch

The stretch blend significantly increases durability, preventing the fabric from easily breaking while keeping crisp, structured lines.

  • 19 Momme: Versatile and flexible. Perfect for custom kimonos that need structure but demand comfort and give.
  • 22 Momme: A heavier, more luxurious weight with stretch. Unmatched drape and body coverage.

Not sure which fabric? We send free swatches so you can feel every option before placing an order.

Kimono Silhouettes & Length Options

A silk kimono is defined by three things: length, collar, and closure. Choose the silhouette that fits your market.

Full-Length Kimono (Ankle)

Full-Length Silk Kimono
  • Hemline hits at or just above the ankle.
  • Maximum fabric coverage. Maximum warmth.
  • Best for: cold climates, hotel/spa suites, bridal getting-ready photos, luxury gifting.

Mid-Length Kimono (Below Knee)

Mid-Length Silk Kimono
  • Hemline falls 5–10 cm below the knee.
  • Our most versatile length. Works year-round.
  • Best for: everyday wear, private-label retail, hospitality.

Short Kimono (Above Knee)

Short Silk Kimono
  • Hemline sits above the knee.
  • Lightweight. Cool. Easy to move in.
  • Best for: summer collections, resort/beachwear, lightweight cover-ups.

Construction Details Unique to Kimonos

A kimono has its own construction logic. No buttons. No fly. No waistband. The kimono lives and dies by its sash and collar.

Belt & Sash

Belt & Sash Detail
  • Self-Fabric Sash: Cut from the same silk as the kimono body. Seamless color match. Standard option.
  • Contrast Sash: Different silk color or weave on the belt. A simple way to create visual interest on solid-color kimonos.
  • Wide Obi-Style Belt: 8–12 cm wide. Structured. Creates a defined waistline. Popular for bridal and editorial use.
  • Belt Loops: Reinforced fabric loops at each side seam to keep the belt in place. Standard on all our kimonos.

Front Panel & Neckline

Front Panel & Neckline Detail

Every kimono starts from the same flat-front V-shape overlap. From there, a few details change how it frames the neck and chest.

  • Flat-Front V-Neck: The classic kimono neckline. No folded lapel — front panels overlap flat in a clean V-shape. Our standard cut.
  • Soft Shawl-Style Front: A gently rounded, slightly padded front edge for a softer look. Popular for loungewear lines.
  • Structured Notch Front: A tailored notch cut into the front panel edge for a sharper, jacket-like finish.
  • Hooded: A full silk hood attached at the neckline. Popular for beach and post-swim kimonos.

Pockets

Pockets Detail
  • Patch Pockets: Large, open-top pockets at hip level. Fits a phone, room key, or hands.
  • Hidden Welt Pockets: Slim, concealed pockets sewn into the side seam. Cleaner look.
  • No Pockets: Reduces bulk. Preferred for fitted or short-length kimonos.

Sleeve Style

Kimono Sleeve Detail
  • Traditional Wide Sleeve: A deep, dropped kimono sleeve that flows loose from the shoulder. Our most popular option.
  • Bell Sleeve: Flares wider toward the cuff for extra drama and movement.
  • Cropped Wide Sleeve: Ends mid-forearm. Stays out of the way while cooking, doing makeup, or working.
  • Fitted Cuff Taper: Wide through the arm but tapers narrower at the wrist. A more modern, tailored take.

Stitching Options

How the seams are finished determines how the kimono feels against skin — especially after a shower when the body is damp and sensitive.

Premium

French Seams

French Seam Detail
  • Raw edges completely encased inside the seam. No exposed threads.
  • Interior feels perfectly smooth against skin.
  • The premium option for any kimono worn on bare skin.
Cost-Effective

Overlock Stitching

Overlock Stitching Detail
  • Durable. Flexible. Faster to produce.
  • More cost-effective for bulk orders.
  • A strong choice for hotel or hospitality orders where production speed matters.
Tell us your preference at the quoting stage, or we'll recommend the best stitch for your fabric and use case.

Branding & Private Label

Make your custom silk kimonos truly yours. From monograms to full private-label packaging.

Embroidery & Monogramming

Embroidered Monogram on Silk Kimono
  • Monograms, logos, crests, or initials stitched directly onto silk.
  • Most popular placements on kimonos: left chest, back yoke, or cuff.
  • Available for orders of 50 kimonos or more.
  • Great for: hotel branding, bridal party names/dates, corporate logos.

Custom Labels & Packaging

Silk Pouch and Packaging
  • Woven Labels: Brand name, logo, and care instructions woven into a tag.
  • Printed Labels: Full-color. Cost-effective for small runs.
  • Hang Tags: Brand story, pricing, care details.
  • Branded Packaging: Custom boxes, tissue paper, matching silk pouches, and dust bags.
Direct OEM manufacturing. Your tags, your packaging, your brand. We stay invisible.

Why a Personalized Silk Kimono?

Off-the-rack silk kimonos lock you into someone else's choices — their fabric weight, their color, their length, their branding. A personalized silk kimono changes that.

You pick the exact momme weight for your climate. You choose the length and sleeve style that flatters your body. You decide whether it carries your monogram or your brand's label. Every detail — from front panel to sash width to stitching method — is specified by you and built by our factory.

For individuals, that means a kimono that actually fits your body and your taste. For brands, it means a product no competitor can source from the same catalog. That's the difference between buying a silk kimono and owning one that was made for you.

Custom Silk Kimonos FAQ

Kimono vs. Robe?

A kimono has a T-shaped cut, wide unshaped sleeves, and a wide obi-style sash tied on the outside. A robe has a fitted Western silhouette — set-in sleeves, a narrower waist sash, and belt loops. We produce both. Contact us if you want a robe instead.

Minimum order?

None. Order one custom silk kimono for yourself, one sample for approval, or a bulk production run. Every order gets factory-direct pricing.

Can I customize the length?

Yes. Standard options are full-length (ankle), mid-length (below knee), and short (above knee). You can also specify an exact centimeter measurement for any custom length.

Does the kimono come with a sash?

Yes. Every kimono ships with a matching self-fabric obi-style sash, tied on the outside — the traditional kimono closure. A contrast-color sash or a wider obi width is available on request.

How should I care for a silk kimono?

Hand wash in cold water with a gentle silk detergent, or dry clean. Do not wring. Hang to dry away from direct sunlight. Steam to remove wrinkles.

Can I mix men's and women's sizes?

Absolutely. Mix sizes, lengths, and colors within a single order. No restrictions.

Returns?

Custom kimonos are made to your exact specifications. Returns accepted only for verified manufacturing defects.

Free samples?

Yes. We ship free fabric swatches worldwide. Feel the silk, check the color, then order with confidence.
